Political values are the values that each person has, which helps to understand the policy in one way or another. In this regard, someone would think of supporting some kind of an idea because of political values. We have seen many changes and modifications to this idea over the last few decades. Political values can be consequently defined as beliefs about which goals, principles, and policies are important in a political community. There is a wide range of examples of political values which include; a small limited government, a strong national defense, low taxation, the constitution, individual freedom, and personal responsibility. Political attitude is the difference in political opinion. Political attitude is shaped by a variety of factors, the same factors that form one’s personality which is gender, sexuality, race, socioeconomic status, and regional identity. Political attitude can also be defined as the attitudes of people to the areas of public life covered by political psychology, for example, views on nationalism, political conservation, political liberalism, and political radicalism.
So What is the Difference between Political Value and Political Attitude?
1. Political values are conservative while political attitudes are liberal.
Conservative values recognize the unique nature of politics, and much in life. Conservative values are also helpful in recognizing and combating deceit. They understand the many incentives by others to engage in deceit, and the political power that can result in such deceit. The conservative values include; placing ideas and principles above self-desire, a devotion to the principle of justice and teaching self-help rather than dependence on government and others. On the other hand, political attitudes are liberal which means they are exactly the opposite of the conservative and they are more tolerant of change.
2. Political values are basic preferences while political attitudes are basic principles.
Values are a person’s beliefs, desires, and expectations of what is right or wrong. Values can only be approximated in how people express them while political attitudes are basic principles which mean these are the ideologies of what they perceive within themselves and the manner in which they want things done.
3. Political values are liberal while political attitudes are conservative.
Political values are liberal which means it is a moral philosophy based on liberty, consent to be governed and equality before the law. Liberals view it differently depending on their understanding of these principles, but they generally support limited government, individual rights, capitalism, and gender equality while political attitudes are conservative. This means that it is a political and social philosophy scaling traditional social institutions in the context of culture and civilization.
4. Political values are held for the short term while political attitudes are held for the long term.
Political values can be denoted as the degree of importance of some thing or action, with the aim of determining what actions are the best to do or what way is the best way to live. Basically, when the rightness of an action outweighs the values it is very easy to change and drop the earlier values while political attitudes are held for the long term because that is what someone believes in and it is a belief in them which cannot be changed easily.
